Last night Miles and I (and the rest of the fam too, I guess) were watching disc 3 of Planet Earth (thanks Netflix!) and for those who have seen it, we were watching the part with the spider that lives inside the pitcher plants. For those who haven't seen it, this particular spider lives inside a
pitcher plant and waits for insects to get caught and drown at which point he drops down, grabs the bug and sucks out the juices. Anyway, Miles asked what the spider was doing and I basically told him that spiders eat insects.
He says, "Insects? What about Outsects?"
I had to laugh because I had never really thought about the
etymology of insect that way before.
